Pollyanna Project gifts mothers at Jamaica hospital

This ever-growing charitable organization – headed by Donna Moore Stewart who grew up here in Old Harbour – took its latest mission to the St Ann’s Bay Hospital where, yesterday, it gifted mothers on the paediatric ward with care packages to the delight of the staff.

INDECOM probes police shooting in Bannister

According to information received by Old Harbour News a few minutes before 8:00 pm a police constable was at a family gathering when a man allegedly entered the premises and disconnected the power from the mini sound system.

A scuffle ensued between the man and the officer, it is said.

The man, according to eyewitnesses, went across the road and retrieved a stone before taking aim at the cop. At this time officer pulled his firearm and fired two shots at the man, one of which hit him in the leg.

DSP Harris to depart as Old Harbour police chief

It is further understood that the veteran law enforcer, with 32 years of service in the Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF), is tipped to head the St Andrew Central Police Division and promoted to the rank of superintendent.

In the summer of 2021 the former operations officer at the Kingston Eastern Division, took over the reins at Old Harbour from then DSP Damion Manderson, now commander in charge of the St Andrew South Police Division at the rank of superintendent.

Old Harbour officers promoted as DSP Harris moves to new role

According to the latest staff order published on the JCF website, DSP Harris is one of nine senior officers affected by a leadership reshuffle spearheaded by Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Donovan Graham. Formerly in charge of Area 4, ACP Graham will now lead the Border Security Branch in this latest organizational realignment.

As initially reported by Old Harbour News, DSP Harris, a seasoned law enforcement officer with 32 years of service, has been reassigned to lead the St. Andrew Central Division based in Half-Way-Tree, Kingston.

Army to simulate real-time scenarios at Kingston Waterfront

The exercise, which will run from January 12-26, is a multinational, multiagency and multi domain event.

It is expected to simulate real-time scenarios to provide the appropriate response.

Exercise Event Horizon, which is now in its third year, is a high-level validation programme designed to simulate real-world threats or disasters in a controlled environment.

The exercise provides participating nations and agencies (local, regional and international) with the opportunity to test their readiness, coordination, and operational capabilities.

Old Harbour Bay honours community builders

The honourees include John Fothergill, Murrell Gordon, Kenneth A. Clarke, and Simeon Campbell.

The group also recognised other leaders who, from the 1950s through the 1990s, worked through the Old Harbour Bay Primary School’s Parent-Teachers Association (PTA), to secure land for the development of the Old Harbour Bay Community Centre.

Constabulary comment on May Pen tragedy involving cop

Twenty-year-old Jimoy Suckoo died under questionable circumstances after the off-duty cop’s government issued firearm was discharged while both were inside a room at the Versailles Hotel in May Pen, Clarendon on Sunday, January 12.

The Independent Commission of Investigations (INDECOM) – the state agency responsible for investigating deaths involving the security forces – says it is seeking to ascertain the full circumstances and actions taken which resulted in the weapon being fired.

Old Harbour record first murder of 2025

Dead is 25-year-old Warren Ingram of Marlie Avenue, Old Harbour.

Reports reaching Old Harbour News are that on January 8 about 12:30 pm Ingram, otherwise called ‘Bobo’ was at a nearby shop when he was shot dead by a man who escaped on foot.

The scene was processed during with blood samples and two spend casings were retrieved by detectives.

Investigations are ongoing with the police urging members of the public who may have any information they believed to be credible that could assist investigators to come forward.
