Work on new athletics track to begin “any time now”

Minister Grange said she had asked the Sports Development Foundation (SDF) to treat the Catherine Hall Sports Complex as a priority for the next financial year which starts on April 1, 2021.

She said that all the assessment for replacement of the Catherine Hall track had been completed and the level of work required for the resurfacing determined.

The Sport Minister said two factors will determine when the work gets going at the National Stadium; the first is that because the track has to be laid on a completely dried surface, it must await the end of seasonal rains.

Jamaica cancel all school sports due to COVID-19 rise

Jamaica has recorded more than 500 positive COVID-19 cases in the month of August alone with 116 confirmed yesterday, the highest figure recorded in a single day.

In a statement this morning under the signature of its president Keith Wellington, the Inter-Secondary Schools Sports Association (ISSA) stated that these and other matters have forced its hand.

Old Harbour well represented as Jamaica Tallawahs retain marquee local players

The formal announcement is not a surprise given that Russell is currently regarded as the best T20 player on the planet and Powell a rising star in the game. They are joined by fast bowler Oshane Thomas and wicketkeeper batsman Chadwick Walton – both members of the 2019 team that failed to reach the play-offs.

International retentions and signings will be announced at a later date. This year teams can retain as many players from their 2019 squads as they wish. They could also transfer players to other teams and sign emerging players.
