In a decisive move to prioritize public safety, the Judiciary of Jamaica has announced the immediate, islandwide suspension of all bail reporting conditions for individuals on bail, effective immediately.

This temporary measure is a direct response to the impending threat posed by Hurricane Melissa.

The suspension will remain in effect until Monday, November 3, 2025, at which point all standard reporting conditions will be reinstated.

A statement from the Court Administration Division clarified that the decision was made to safeguard the well-being of citizens, including those on bail, court staff, and law enforcement personnel. The suspension accounts for the significant risks associated with the hurricane, such as hazardous weather, impassable or damaged roads, and widespread disruptions to travel and essential services.

The safety of all concerned is our paramount concern. This step is taken to prevent anyone from being put in harm's way while attempting to comply with their bail conditions during a national emergency.

The agency is urging all stakeholders, including the Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF), the private legal community, and the general public, to take note of this temporary change in procedure. Individuals on bail are advised that they are not required to report during this suspension period and will not be penalized for their non-attendance until the order is lifted.

To manage court-related matters during this period, the public is strongly encouraged to stay informed through official channels. Updates regarding court operations, closures, and the rescheduling of court dates will be disseminated via the Court Administration Division’s official communication channels.
