Bartons man, 18, charged with having sex with 15-y-o girl

Allegations are that for little more than a year Denver Halstead has been involved in a sexual relationship with a now 15-year-old high school girl from a neighbouring community.

The matter was brought to the attention of the police by the girl’s mother when her daughter did not return home from an event in Old Harbour recently.

An investigation was launched following which the teenage girl was located at the home of Halstead during the wee hours of the morning. When questioned by the police, the girl revealed that both have been engaged in an intimate relationship from she was 14 years old.

The man was subsequently arrested and charged under the Sexual Offences Act, which makes it criminal for an adult to engage a person under the age of 16 into any form of sexual relationship. 

A date for Halstead to appear in court is being finalized.
