A gruesome discovery was made in the quiet community of Sargood Lane on Monday evening, as the partially decomposed and burned body of a 40-year-old man, locally known as "Deafy” was found inside his one-room board house.

The deceased has been identified by residents and preliminary investigations as Victor Timoll, an unemployed man of Sargood Lane, Red Ground District, Old Harbour.

According to police reports, the grim discovery was made at approximately 7:30 p.m. yesterday. A family friend, paying a visit to check on Timoll, stumbled upon the horrifying scene. The body was found lying on its back, showing signs of severe burns and advanced decomposition.

The Old Harbour police were immediately notified and secured the area. Detectives from the St. Catherine Scene of Crime Unit processed the location, meticulously collecting crucial evidence. Items retrieved from the small dwelling included a hammer, a piece of steel, and a plastic bottle. Forensic teams also gathered two blood samples, debris from the burned areas, and swabs from the recovered items, hoping they will provide clues to the brutal crime.

The scene suggests that Timoll may have been dead for up to a week before being discovered, with the period of interest for the murder established as between August 11 and August 18.

The body was later removed from the scene by Morgan’s Funeral Home and transported to the Spanish Town Hospital, where a doctor formally pronounced him dead. It is now being stored at the funeral home pending a post-mortem examination, which is expected to determine the exact cause of death.

The police are appealing to anyone with information to come forward. The tight-knit community of Red Ground has been left in a state of shock with unanswered questions.

"Right now, we are following all leads," a police source close to the investigation stated. "We are especially interested in speaking with anyone who may have seen or heard anything unusual in the Sargood Lane area between the 11th and the 18th of August."

Investigators are working to determine a motive for the killing. Anyone with information is urged to contact the Old Harbour police at 876 203 3659 or Crime Stop at 311.
