An Old Harbour woman has been exonerated after her former partner retracted allegations of theft, culminating in a public apology at the St. Catherine Parish Court in Old Harbour.

Jonalee Nesbeth, 30, of Vineyard Estate, was arrested on May 11 and charged with larceny after her then-common-law fiancé, Derron Bailey, accused her of stealing $3.2 million in cash, a stove, and a 75-inch television from his home.

However, during court-mandated mediation, Bailey admitted he could not prove Nesbeth’s involvement, acknowledging that another individual had access to his property. He subsequently withdrew the allegations and issued a formal apology in court on Friday.

In his statement, Bailey said: “I, Derron Bailey, previously accused Miss Jonalee Nesbeth of stealing $3,200,000.00 and appliances from my house. I now wish to withdraw the allegations and apologise to Miss Nesbeth, as I cannot prove her culpability.”

He further admitted, “When I made the allegation, I failed to consider that another person had access to my home. I deeply regret the reputational harm caused to Miss Nesbeth and offer this apology to fully clear her name.”

Bailey also agreed to withdraw the case entirely, provided Nesbeth accepts a settlement.

The matter has since been resolved, allowing Nesbeth to move forward without the cloud of criminal allegations.
