The Old Harbour police have informed Old Harbour News that Lawrence ‘Marcus’ Sergeant, the father of 13-year-old Shantina Sergeant, was held in the Myton Gully area of East Street, Old Harbour, at 10:25 pm on last Friday October 10. His capture followed a sustained, multi-divisional manhunt by detectives.

Sergeant, 46, had been sought since the evening of October 6, when the burnt and partially decomposed body of his daughter was discovered among debris behind their home in the quiet farming community of Bailleston, northern Clarendon.

Shantina had been reported missing by her father on October 3, three days before her remains were found after residents alerted the police to a foul smell and flies near the premises.

In a chilling revelation, Shantina’s stepmother, Julieth Unis, reported that the teen had recently expressed fear of her father, telling a friend she was “afraid to go home.” Unis, it is also reported had left an abusive relationship with Lawrence a year ago, but noted Shantina had started living with him this year.

According to Superintendent Carey Duncan, head of the Manchester Police Division, investigators are exploring all leads, including unconfirmed reports that the teen may have been sexually abused.
