What started as a quiet Easter Monday morning quickly transformed into chaotic scenes about 12:35 pm atop the second floor of the two-storey building. The top floor serves as residence for the Chinese citizens who have been living and operating the current location for more than a decade now.
Firefighters from Old Harbour and Spanish Town were quick reaching the scene and were very busy battling the raging blaze, while locals converged along East Street.
The Old Harbour police responded swiftly as well, as every effort was made to control the growing crowd of onlookers.
Huge plumes of smoke could be seen from many, many metres away, while getting inside of the building proved problematic for firefighters.
There has been no report of any personal injuries to anyone but the damage seems extensive and in all likelihood expensive as well. The true extent and cost, however, will be ascertained in coming days pending a comprehensive investigation. Watch video below. Warning: Strong Language.
