Residents and businesses from Old Harbour to Gutters, Spring Village and surrounding communities should prepare for a full-day power interruption this coming Tuesday, as the Jamaica Public Service Company (JPS) has scheduled a major service upgrade for the area.

In an advisory sent directly to customers via text message, the light and power company announced the planned outage will take place on Tuesday, October 14, 2025, from 8:30 am until 6:00 pm.

The extensive work is expected to impact a significant portion of the region's population. More than a third of the over 60,000 inhabitants in the affected corridor could be without electricity for the duration of the day. This suggests that upwards of 20,000 individuals may be impacted by the service interruption.

The planned outage is a necessary step for JPS crews to conduct critical upgrades to the electrical infrastructure. Such upgrades are typically performed to improve the reliability and quality of the power supply, reduce the frequency of unplanned outages, and accommodate future growth in the area.

JPS is advising customers in the affected communities to make the necessary preparations. Residents are encouraged to:

  • Ensure all necessary electronic devices are fully charged in advance.
  • Make alternative arrangements for refrigeration and the storage of perishable goods.
  • Have flashlights and batteries readily available.
  • Use generators with extreme caution, ensuring they are operated outdoors in a well-ventilated area to prevent carbon monoxide poisoning.

While the outage is scheduled to end by 6:00 pm, customers should be aware that restoration times are estimates and could change depending on the progress of the work.

For further updates and confirmation of the affected areas, customers can contact JPS at 888-225-5577 (CALL JPS) or monitor the company's official social media pages.
