Old Harbour cops eliminate ‘repeat offender’
Article By: Old Harbour News
Cashan Saunders
The deceased has been identified as 28-year-old Cashan Saunders, a resident of the community.
While the official police report remains pending, Old Harbour News understands that Saunders was fatally shot during a confrontation. An illegal gun was recovered, while the incident occurred about 2:30 am.
It is further understood that Saunders, who was wanted for murder at one point, is a known “repeat offender” to law enforcers and recently served time incarcerated for “shop breaking”.
When contacted, residents of the Church Pen area displayed no sympathy for the deceased, otherwise called 'Shawn' , who was fingered as the main suspect in multiple burglaries of shops and bars in the community.
Regardless of his antecedents, the Independent Commission (INDECOM) has opened a probe into the matter as is mandated by state law regarding shootings involving the security forces.
Investigation continues.
