The once vibrant social club has been dormant for several years now, but Manderson said its importance to the wellbeing of its hardworking officers in particular and citizens in general cannot be overstated.
As such the team will be hosting a food fiesta fundraiser on Emancipation Day with proceeds going towards the programme. Residents can support the initiative by purchasing a ticket at the station at a cost of $1,500.
He told Old Harbour News in a recent interview that they have already formed a football team, while invitation remains open for the composition of a netball squad.
The club he said will also act as a social intervention tool, as plans are afoot for the football team to engage various communities in the sub-division in a series of friendly matches.
This, DSP Manderson said, is another important way to meaningfully engage citizens, build confidence and trust and to establish consensus to address a wide-range of societal issues.
The fact of the matter is most if not all crimes, are solved when participate,” he said. “But we don’t want it to get to that stage, we want to engage our citizens more, whereby a lot of these crimes are prevented before they materialized.”
