Residents and businesses across several communities in southwest St. Catherine are advised to prepare for a full-day power interruption tomorrow, Thursday, August 28, 2025.

The Jamaica Public Service Company (JPS) has announced a planned outage to facilitate essential maintenance work on its electrical grid. The affected areas span from the Spring Village main road to Camp Verley, and from Bushy Park to High House.

The scheduled maintenance will begin promptly at 7:00 a.m. and is expected to be completed by 6:00 p.m., resulting in an 11-hour service interruption.

In an official advisory, the light and power company stated that the work is necessary to improve the reliability and quality of electricity supply to the region. Such routine maintenance often includes upgrading transformers, replacing aging poles and lines, and performing critical system checks to prevent unplanned outages in the future.

JPS is urging all customers within the affected zones to make the necessary adjustments to mitigate the impact of the prolonged outage. Recommendations include:

  •  Ensuring electronic devices are fully charged beforehand.
  • Making arrangements for the proper storage of perishable goods and medications.
  • Exercising extreme caution if using alternative power sources like generators, ensuring they are operated outdoors in a well-ventilated area to avoid the risk of carbon monoxide poisoning.

The company has also apologized for any inconvenience caused, emphasizing that the work is vital for the long-term stability of the power infrastructure. Customers are reminded that completion times are estimates and subject to change based on weather conditions or unforeseen complications during the work.

For further updates and confirmation of the affected areas, customers can contact JPS Customer Care at 888-225-5577 (CALL-JPS) or visit the company’s official website and social media channels.
