The deceased has been identified as 22-year-old Garfield ‘Popsi’ Shaw, who is unemployed and from an Old Harbour Glades address.
The homicide occurred about 11:50 am at a garage located at the corner of Begonia Crescent and Anthony Avenue in the community.
According to the police report, Shaw rode up on a motorbike and was disembarking when two men with gun alighted from a motor vehicle and fired several shots at him. He died on the spot.
One detective told Old Harbour News that 25 spent casings were found on the scene.
Investigators, however, were tightlipped when asked of any possible leads or motive that would have caused the killing of Shaw, who was in the process of fixing up his own motorcycle with assistance from his parents.
Shaw, at the time of his death, was riding a motorbike belonging to a friend, Old Harbour News has been informed.
This is the third such murder in broad daylight to occur in the Old Harbour space within the last two months.
The latest murder is likely to trigger louder calls for the urgent installation of the state-sponsored JamaicaEye programme which is an islandwide network of camera surveillance systems designed to increase the safety of all citizens. These cameras will monitor public spaces across the island and assist the authorities in responding to incidents in the event of an incident, disaster, act of criminality or accident.
