Salada Foods Jamaica Limited Gem Awards winners (from left): Akeele Johnson; Karimah Shepherd; Richard Thomas; Nadine Francis, collecting on behalf of Duane Taylor; and Peter Collins.
The activity, which took place at the company’s Bell Road headquarters recently, saw more than 40 employees volunteering alongside teachers and students from the adopted Jebb Memorial Basic School.
General Manager Tamii Brown, who led the initiative, emphasized the deep connection between the company and the agricultural sector. “Our farmers are a vital part of our ecosystem. When they hurt, we hurt too. This effort reflects our shared connection and commitment to supporting them, especially during these challenging times,” Brown stated.
The care packages were stocked with essential food and hygiene items, and also included samples of the company’s newly launched sorrel hibiscus beverage.
Floyd Green, minister of Agriculture, Fisheries, and Mining, visited the packing session and commended the intervention, noting its timely importance. “This takes a big burden off our farmers, many of whom are back on their farms but still facing very difficult circumstances,” Minister Green said.
Following the relief effort, Salada Foods turned its attention inward to honour outstanding staff at an internal ceremony. The company presented its departmental ‘Gem Awards’ to six employees for exceptional dedication and performance throughout the year.
Akeele Johnson (Warehouse), Duane Taylor (Sanitation), Anthony Anglin (Production), Peter Collins (Engineering), Richard Thomas (Accounts), and Karimah Shepherd (Quality Lab) were the recipients.
“Our Gems have shown exceptional hard work and a willingness to go above and beyond, truly exemplifying Team Salada,” Brown said of the awardees.
The relief packing activity replaced the company’s traditional staff party, underscoring Salada’s community-focused response in the wake of the hurricane.
