Old Harbour businessman calls for support of youth programmes

Organized by its Youth Community Development Foundation (YCDF) which he founded, Cargill and a team of local volunteers hosted the YCDF Primary School Football Rally which involved 10 schools and engaged 140 students, including both genders. 

The one-day football tournament was held at the Port Esquivel Sports Complex last Friday, with Old Harbour Primary claiming the title after a 1-0 win over Friendship.

‘An amazing honour’ | What Shivnarine Chanderpaul said after induction into ICC Hall of Fame

But it’s never too late for a shower of rain, and rightly so Chanderpaul’s induction is well deserved.

Reacting to the good news, the unorthodox left-handed stroke maker told Windies Cricket Media: “It’s an amazing honour to follow the footsteps of many legends and so many other great cricketers of the past. I’m grateful for the recognition and would like to enjoy the moment with family, friends and most importantly the West Indies cricket fans and fans around the world who passionately supported me throughout my career.”

Jimmy Adams pens open letter to Shivnarine Chanderpaul

They will be honoured ahead of the T20 World Cup semi-final at the Sydney Cricket Ground, Australia.

Following the announcement of the newest Hall of Famers, open letters have been penned to the inductees by some of their closest compatriots.

Below is a letter written by West Indian Jimmy Adams to Chanderpaul, who represented the West Indies for 21 years after making his debut as a 19-year-old in 1994.

Old Harbour’s Rovman Powell captains Jamaica Tallawahs to third CPL T20 title

Barbados Royals had won the toss and chose to bat, with Rahkeem Cornwall and Kyle Mayers getting them off to a blistering start, combining to score 63 runs in the powerplay. However, Fabian Allen would remove both openers to bring the Tallawahs back into the game, before Azam Khan would continue his fine form with the bat to take the Royals to 161/7.

Teen girls depart tough inner-city community on US basketball scholarships

Tahjera Forbes of The Queen’s School and Haile Selassie High’s Leka Reid will commence a new chapter in their life after their prodigious talents were enough to convinced scouts in attendance at the Jamaica Basketball Association (JaBA) Star Search Basketball Camp hosted in the summer at GC Foster College.

They will continue their education and basketball development at the North Florida Educational Institute in the USA, which undoubtedly represent the start of a life-changing experience they could only dream about months ago.

Old Harbour High D-Cup match relocated from The Best Dressed Chicken community playfield

The match is set to kick-off at 3:30 pm today.

Ewan Scott, the Inter-Secondary School Sports Association’s (ISSA) competition’s director communicated this update with Old Harbour News moments ago.

The Best Dressed Chicken community playfield was Sunday the scene of a mass shooting where nine persons were shot, three fatally.

Since then the community has had a strong police presence in the area, while the playfield remains part of an ongoing investigation for scene of crime detectives and other investigators.

In her contribution to the 2022/23 Sectoral Debate, Minister of Culture, Gender, Entertainment and Sport, Hon. Olivia Grange, emphasised that the projects cannot be completed in one year, “but will be done over a period of years.”

General Manager for Independence Park Limited (IPL), Major Desmon Brown, says the Stadium complex is set to benefit from state-of-the-art facilities, aimed at modernising the facility.

Sierra Leone FA investigates matches ending with 95-0 and 91-1 scorelines

On Sunday, two First Division matches in the country’s Eastern Region Super 10 League saw Kahunla Rangers hammering Lumbebu United 95-0, while Gulf FC crushed Koquima Lebanon 91-1.

Both Kahunla Rangers and Gulf FC are locked on equal points and fighting for promotion with goal difference a major deciding factor to determine which team advance to the premiership.
