He has been identified as Michael Campbell, otherwise called ‘Islan’, a construction worker.
Police information is that about 9:00 pm Campbell and two other men were standing at his gate on Redwood Avenue chatting when a man sporting a hooded t-shirt approached him, pulled a gun and fired several shots hitting him in the head and upper body.
The men, who were with Campbell at the time, managed to flee the area unhurt.
Sources told Old Harbour News that the gunman escaped on foot before disappearing into a white Toyota Probox. Residents of the usually quiet neighbourhood say four shots were heard at the time Campbell was attacked.
Campbell’s death is the 12th homicide recorded since the start of the year in the Old Harbour sub-division which falls under the St Catherine South Police Division.
The policing district has been experiencing a significant decline in murders in comparison to last year when a record 35 killings were registered.
Investigation continues.
