The school train service, “Back on Track”, will officially roll out on Monday, January 10, 2022, corresponding with the reopening of participating high schools that are part of the pilot.

The roll out date was rescheduled at the request of the schools and the Ministry of Education, Youth and Information due to the fact that all participating schools will reopen on the 10th of January.

School administrators are using this week to prepare for the resumption of face-to-face classes.

At the official launch of the school train service on Tuesday, December 14, 2021, Minister of Transport and Mining Robert Montague, announced that the service would commence with the reopening of schools in January. The service will begin by moving students from Old Harbour and Linstead, and arrive in Spanish Town.

The Back on Track school train service is a partnership with the Ministry of Transport and Mining, the Ministry of Education, Youth and Information, the Jamaica Railway Corporation, the Jamaica Urban Transit Company, and the Jamaica Constabulary Force.

The commuter rail service will be operated in two segments of the existing network in the parish of St. Catherine. It is expected to provide safe and cost-effective transport for school-age children who depend on the public transport system for travel.

The service seeks to move our children from Old Harbour and Linstead into Spanish Town by train. Then the JUTC will pick up and drop them off at the various schools in Spanish Town. In the afternoon the reverse will take effect.
