A pedal cyclist is dead following injuries sustained in an accident with a truck.

The accident occurred in the Old Harbour town square about 12:15 pm Monday.

Dead is Vincent McCalla, 79 years old of Succaba Gardens, Old Harbour.

It is understood that the elderly man was at the rear right side of the 10-wheeler truck which had stopped in a line of traffic on Darlington Drive roughly five metres away from the Old Harbour Clock.

Based on eyewitness accounts the rider became entangled with the rear wheel of the truck after the stoplight switched to green.

Mr McCalla then fell off his bicycle and was run over by the truck, his left arm damaged severely.

The senior citizen, they claimed, was forced to ride onto the middle of the road because taxis had parked illegally on the side, a common habit of public passenger operators.

Truck was temporarily seized pending further investigation.

Many still had plenty hope that he would make it alive, but then news came that he was pronounced dead at the Spanish Town Hospital about 12:30 pm, less than half-hour after the unfortunate incident.
