The island of Jamaica will experience an intense heat wave over the next few days until Saturday.

Weather experts say this is as a result of warm air passing through the Central Caribbean region which will see higher daytime temperatures as high as 35 ºC or 95 ºF in some areas.

Such conditions also means higher humidity which will make those high temperatures feel more like 43 degrees Celsius which is well over 100 degrees Fahrenheit.

“Unfortunately, the heat across Jamaica will intensify starting this Wednesday, August 30, 2023 through to Saturday, September 02, 2023 as a very warm air mass is currently passing through the Central Caribbean including Jamaica which will result in higher daytime temperatures,” tweeted Weather Jamaica displaying a heat wave forecast map.

Despite the forecast some section of the island, especially in the hilly interior, will experience rain in the afternoon.

However temperatures and humidity will remain high nonetheless.

As we go into September, the Caribbean is likely to experience warmer temperatures, as the next couple of months are historically the peak of the hurricane season for the region.

We are at the peak of the season. The peak itself is September [and] the actual day is September 10. Again, August, September and through to the middle of October is usually very active,” said meteorologist Brian Shields during his latest update on his YouTube channel Mr Weatherman.

Persons are advised to drink lots of fluids to stay hydrated and to avoid sun exposure for long hours especially between the hours of 11:00 am and 2:00 pm when temperatures are hottest.
