Charged with murder, shooting with intent, illegal possession of a prohibited weapon and ammunition is 22-year-old Jahmore Campbell, otherwise called ‘Platty Puss’ from the Dagga Bay enclave, Old Harbour Bay.
On the night of October 15, 2023 Peters and another female were sitting along the roadway in Station Lane when armed gunmen entered a yard and fired several shots one of which inadvertently hit Peters who later died at hospital.
Swift action by the Old Harbour detectives led them to list Campbell as a suspect who was later held within 24 hours of the senseless shooting.
On October 19 Campbell was formally charged by the police following a question and answer session in front of an attorney.
His case has since been transferred to the Gun Court in Kingston after it came up for mentioning in the St Catherine Parish Court in Spanish Town on October 31.
It is alleged that Campbell, Kirk McNeil, alias ‘Kirky’ or ‘Cock Chicken’ were among the group of men who carried out the gun attack that cost Peters her life.
On the day Campbell was arrested McNeil, 22, was found dead in a swampy part of the Terminal area in Old Harbour Bay.
McNeil’s body was discovered by residents who subsequently called the police. The body had gunshot wounds, investigators say.
McNeil, who the police have also jointly charged albeit posthumously with the murder of Peters, is believed to have been killed by his own cronies, said investigators.
Based on the investigative report which will form part of the prosecutors’ case, McNeil was killed due the fact that he has a minor mental issue and probably could become a key witness against his partners of the crime.
