US citizen continues support for native community

Duwayne Newman organizes an assortment of educational materials for donation to his native community of Lloyd’s Pen in southwest St Catherine.
Now a U.S. citizen, Newman returned to the island this summer to continue his philanthropic efforts, donating school supplies to children in this tiny community located four miles southeast of Old Harbour.
A 45-year-old father of four who also grew up in nearby Nightingale Grove, Newman has quietly made generosity a cornerstone of his life, eschewing fanfare for genuine impact.
This past Monday, Newman, accompanied by relatives, visited Lloyd’s Pen to distribute educational aids to approximately 25 children, ensuring they are well-prepared for the upcoming school year.
Speaking to Old Harbour News afterwards, Newman, a Wal-Mart supervisor in Washington DC, stated: “Giving back to the community that shaped me has always been a heartfelt mission. Seeing the smiles on these children’s faces as they prepare for school is all the reward I need. Lloyd’s Pen will always be home, and if I can help lighten the load for even one family, then I’ve done what I set out to do. This is not about recognition – it’s about making a real difference, one child at a time."
He also acknowledged the support of his siblings and mother towards the continuation of his philanthropy.
