JPS announces 12-hour outage for St Catherine and Clarendon

According to a Jamaica Public Service advisory the disruption in power supply will impact comminutes as far as Point Hill, Bellas Gate, and Kentish, as well as sections of Palmer’s Cross, May Pen.

This means tens of thousands of JPS customers will be affected between the hours of 6:00 am and 6:00 pm, stated the light and power company.

In notifying its customers about the planned outage, the JPS stated: “Reliable power supply is as important to us at JPS as it is to you.

Several detained after major security operation in Old Harbour

However, members of the security forces are unwilling to divulge the names of the individuals now in police custody, citing investigative protocols.

Old Harbour News understands that the pre-dawn operation targeted the Succaba area and surrounding enclaves and lasted a few hours. 

It was initially rumored that an illegal weapon was recovered during the operation but one senior investigator told the local news outlet that this was false.

Both Spanish-speaking countries are among a select group of nations that have been officially offered partner status, one tier below full membership.

Other countries reportedly offered similar invitation are Belarus, Indonesia Türkiye, Algeria, Kazakhstan, Malaysia, Nigeria, Thailand, Uganda, Uzbekistan and Vietnam.

BRICS is an informal group of states comprising the Federative Republic of Brazil, the Russian Federation, the Republic of India, the People’s Republic of China and the Republic of South Africa.

Old Harbour SDA launches fundraiser to acquire land next door

Guests will enjoy live music from the RSI Steel Band, a talented saxophonist, and dynamic vocal performances from local artists. Emcee Markland Edwards will direct proceedings.

This fundraiser seeks to raise funds for the church’s community initiatives, including acquiring adjoining land to expand the Old Harbour Seventh-Day Adventist Basic School, which has served the community since 1975. The expansion will allow the school to meet the needs of its growing student population.

Biker dies in South Street crash

Dead is Nicholas Pryce, 27, a resident of Savannah Cross, Palmer’s Cross district, Clarendon.

According to the police, Pryce was heading south along South Street when the driver of a Honda Stepwagon, heading north, made a right turn toward Walker’s Road.

Pryce slammed into the vehicle and was unconscious with a massive wound to his forehead.

He died on the spot.

The incident occurred sometime between 2:45 pm and 3:30 pm Old Harbour News understands.

Jamaica’s top cycling prodigy Jaequan Dixon wins first senior title

Yesterday’s final race event on the club’s calendar brought the curtains down in climatic fashion and left tongues wagging about the future prospects of undoubtedly Jamaica’s most prodigious cycling talent at present.

Dixon, a native of Old Harbour Glades, timed his moment perfectly in the final few metres in this six-lap (36 miles) course between Mineral Heights and Jamalco to pip the experienced Peter Thompson on the line.

Jamaica Diaspora group launches mentorship programme back home

This initiative is part of JDTAN's ongoing collaboration with the principal and staff, the US-based group stated in a release.

“After several months of feasibility studies and planning, a team of educational experts within JDTAN has designed this flagship program. The program aims to work with selected students at Oracabessa High School to implement individualized action plans that promote measurable academic gains and help guide them toward successful post-secondary education and fulfilling careers,” stated JDTAN’s President Leo Gilling.
