Non-motorists account for most road fatalities - Dr Jones

Vulnerable road users are defined as non-motorised road users, such as pedestrians, cyclists, motorcyclists and persons with disabilities or reduced mobility and orientation.

Of the fatalities, there were 48 pedestrians, 12 pedal cyclists and 98 travelling on a motorcycle. Eighty-nine drivers and nine pillion passengers also died in road accidents.

On September 24, 11-year-old Marla Richards, a Vere Technical High student, died after being hit by bus. Another student of the Clarendon-based institution was injured in a separate incident and taken to hospital for treatment.

Early childhood educators complete international literacy course

The teachers successfully completed a recent literacy intervention programme, dubbed ‘Read Right from the Start’, geared at delivering improved outcomes for children in the sector.

The project resulted from a partnership involving United Way of Jamaica, the Early Childhood Commission (ECC), and the United States (US)-based Rollins Center for Language and Literacy at the Atlanta Speech School.

50 students receive tablets from St Catherine JP Association

‘You are the fountain of justice’, attorney tells lay magistrates at Old Harbour ceremony

At a most opportune and relevant moment, Mr Shaw used the historic event to remind justices of the peace of their important role in society. 

During a ceremony in which he gave the charge to 23 newly certified lay magistrates, the noted attorney-at-law, said the October 11, 1865 event that led to the uprising, spearheaded by National Hero Paul Bogle, is a stark reminder that the dispensing of justice must be fair at all times.

Mother distraught over missing 11-y-o daughter

So far all attempts to locate and bring her home, are to no avail. Her father and the rest of the family have been combing Spanish Town and its surrounding communities for days but so far their efforts have not unearthed any leads.
