Demoted Toronto cop Stacy Clarke an inspirational advocate for Blacks in Canada

Sam Sharpe, one of Jamaica's seven national heroes, was an educated Black enslaved person who led a passive resistance in 1831 that played a significant role in ending slavery. During that time, enslaved individuals were only allowed to hold religious meetings as organized activities. Despite this limitation, "Daddy Sharpe," as he was known, led a peaceful protest against the English laws that affected enslaved people in Jamaica.

Old Harbour man shot in the head, dies

He has been identified as Dwayne McDaniel otherwise called ‘Maddu’ or ‘Corey’ from the same enclave.

Based on preliminary police details, about 1:15 am residents heard several gunshots rang out after which the body of the 37-year-old labourer was found with bullet wounds to the head.

The scene was processed and the body removed to the hospital where it was officially pronounced deceased by a doctor on staff and subsequently taken to the morgue where a mandatory postmortem will be done.

Unstable weather to cause flooding across Jamaica

Jamaicans in the eastern belt of the island could start experiencing unstable weather conditions as early as Tuesday night going into Wednesday morning with increasing rainfall intensifying throughout the day.

The condition is likely to cause major flooding in particularly in low-lying areas.

“It is going to bring us some potential of flooding… it is an elongated system that stretches all the way down to basically South America,” says Brian Shields in his latest weather report.

FHC held its Scholarship and Entrepreneurship Awards on Thursday, August 29, 2024, at the Jamaica Pegasus Hotel, revealing the awardees will have access to $3.6 million in education grants and business ventures.

The awardees and their families listened to a rousing and inspiring keynote presentation from registered pharmacist, medical sales representative, and entrepreneur Dathan Henry, who encouraged the audience to “innovate, elevate, and celebrate throughout their lifetimes”.

Old Harbour cycling club to make second appearance at famous New York ride

The trio of Alton Duhaney, Jaequan Dixon and Donrick Fearon are already in the Big Apple preparing for the 125-mile course from Brooklyn’s Prospect Park to Montauk Lighthouse this Sunday, September 8.

Club president Velana Creary is elated.

“The members here are very excited. It’s a great opportunity for our organization and our youths… they need to be out there, they need to go different places, different areas to compete so they can be a better cyclists and a better person,” she said from New York. “It is a huge opportunity for us.”
