Jamaica health officials discuss mpox amid heightened concern

This comes as the Government of Jamaica heightens its preparedness for the possible re-introduction of mpox in the country.

According to the Health & Wellness Minister, “In non-endemic countries, such as Jamaica, one case is considered an outbreak. Because of the public health risks associated with a single case of mpox, clinicians should report suspected cases immediately to the Parish Health Department and the Ministry’s National Surveillance Unit regardless of whether they are also exploring other potential diagnoses.”

Bank of Jamaica cuts rate to 6.75 per cent

The MPC noted that its previous decision, announced on 28 June 2024, to gradually reduce the absorption of liquidity, has already resulted in an injection of $20.5 billion into the system and a 105 bps reduction in the interest rates on BOJ’s 30-day Certificates of Deposit.

As a consequence, treasury bill rates fell by between 20 bps and 72 bps over the period 01 July 2024-to-date.

The Committee concluded that inflation is becoming more anchored in the Bank’s target range of 4.0 to 6.0 per cent.

Dr Waul calls for urgent intervention amid water woes in constituency

Going into almost a full week their plight remains unchanged. No water and no idea when service will be restored.

The cause for the disruption and possible timeline for restoration is still unknown with the state-owned utility provider yet to provide any clarity on the matter.

Its only communiqué behind the abrupt disruption in service was an advisory issued Sunday stating its team is still assessing the situation.

But this lack of communication and seemingly lack of urgency to a bubbling water crisis has increased frustrations amongst affected residents.
